The two Quebec ferries, the Didace Guévremont and the Alexandrina Chalifoux, required a complete modernization of their steering systems and pilot consoles. The wiring, hydraulic controls, and integration of the steering control systems had to be completely redesigned. Another major challenge was to simplify and centralize alarm management on a single screen to improve operator responsiveness.
Applied Industrial Technologies, which specializes in hydraulics, called on LM for its expertise in wiring, electrical integration, and the manufacture of custom consoles tailored to the specific needs of captains.
LM proposed an innovative, multi-pronged solution:
Modernization of the steering consoles:
Ergonomic design offers improved visibility and optimized comfort for captains.
Addition of a light attenuation system for night navigation.
Inclusion of a screen to centralize and differentiate alarms, facilitating rapid decision-making.
Electrical installation and integration:
Complete replacement of old cables and clean, organized installation for simplified maintenance.
Integration of Jastram steering control systems for smooth and reliable navigation.
Technical support and flexibility:
Start-up assistance by experienced technicians who have worked on ships in the past.
Customized solutions that meet current needs while remaining adaptable for future developments.
Thanks to LM’s intervention, the ferries now benefit from:
This project strengthens the relationship of trust with its partners, while contributing to the modernization of Quebec’s maritime infrastructure.
